Intermittent Fasting
Intermittent Fasting
From John Hopkins
Here are some intermittent fasting benefits research has revealed so far:
Thinking and memory. Studies discovered that intermittent fasting boosts working memory in animals and verbal memory in adult humans.
Heart health. Intermittent fasting improved blood pressure and resting heart rates as well as other heart-related measurements.
Physical performance. Young men who fasted for 16 hours showed fat loss while maintaining muscle mass. Mice who were fed on alternate days showed better endurance in running.
Diabetes and obesity. In animal studies, intermittent fasting prevented obesity. And in six brief studies, obese adult humans lost weight through intermittent fasting.
Tissue health. In animals, intermittent fasting reduced tissue damage in surgery and improved results.
I personally had no clue how the fasting windows worked and had always felt that if I ate “right” and kept relatively active then why?
One can intermittent fast and not resolve eating, health issues if the diet sucks.
What fasting DOES do is start the process of discipline in WHAT we eat. The compulsive eating behavior gets tamed and you can allow yourself to go to the next level of nutrition and start eliminating things like Sugar, Processed foods, Seed oils and really turn your life around.
I know that when I started fasting my chronic arthritis in my knee “behaved” and I was able to start walking with less discomfort.
There are things you can do to help curb hunger in the morning like add a little butter and MCT oil to your coffee in the morning to tame your hunger pains and allow your eating window to shorten and help your gut process food in the fasted state and burn fat while increasing energy.
I’ve heard and read so many Drs. and Health experts refer to our gut as our second “brain” because it sends signals to every part of our body and time restricted eating lets the gut “think” better for your bodies health.
I preferred to start out as Keto because when I found out the fasting was working- I wanted more.
I’ve had medical, health issues , cognitive function and energy improve as stated by The John Hopkins Research, but more importantly I feel freedom from my past impulsive eating behaviors.
There are many research studies showing Thyroid, Immune, and Inflammation improvements associated with fasting and in Asian countries fasting is a protocol for fighting against certain cancers.

Studies on Intermittent fasting and Cancer
Both studies were led by Valter Longo, professor and director of the USC Longevity Institute at the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, who has found several health benefits of fasting-like diets, from weight loss to slowed aging. The clinical study was co-led by oncologist David Quinn of the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.
“The mouse study on skin and breast cancers is the first study to show that a diet that mimics fasting may activate the immune system and expose the cancer cells to the immune system,” Longo said. “This could be a very inexpensive way to make a wide range of cancer cells more vulnerable to an attack by the immune cells while also making the cancer more sensitive to the chemotherapy.”
The two studies’ findings build upon prior research that showed a short-term fast starves cancer cells and facilitates the chemo drug therapies to better target the cancer. Another more recent study showed that a low-calorie, fasting-mimicking diet can slow multiple sclerosis by killing off bad cells and generating new healthy ones.
There are many advantages associated with intermittent fasting and so much has been written about the health benefits, but what I’m most concerned about is LONGEVITY and QUALITY of life as we age.
We live in an abundant society where we can find 10-15 brands of the same items on the store shelves. There are so many snacks we mindlessly consume because they are all around us it’s so very hard to get yourself to say no, but I do believe that creating an eating window can liberate you from impulsive eating behaviors.
Warning- if you are a diabetic and want to fast please consult your Doctor
